Although Versace is synonymous with Italian glamour, the brand’s founder had a well-documented love affair with Miami. Aside from Gianni Versace’s palatial Ocean Drive mansion, Casa Casuarina, the designer also crafted many of his tropical collections around the city’s warm weather. In 1993, Gianni and his sister Donatella released a photo book documenting their fascination with the city titled South Beach Stories. Naturally, it includes Versace’s favourite models—Linda Evangelista and Kate Moss appear in full poolside glamour, captured by photographer Doug Ordway.
Inspired by the rare book (which now sells for more than 600 euro), interior designer, Sasha Bikoff has created an installation at the Palm Court Event Space of the Miami Design District using the jungle greens, limes, oranges and Caribbean blues featured in Ordway’s photographs. Among the feature items is a plush surfboard bed, adorned with the kaleidoscopic imagery of the brand’s iconic silk shirts.
