Champagne Breakfast & Artist Talk: Mario Klingemann in conversation with Anika Meier

On Saturday, during Berlin’s Gallery Weekend and alongside the current exhibition “Conflict of Interest” by Mario Klingemann, a Champagne Breakfast and artist talk took place at SLEEK Art Space. In collaboration with the partner Art on Tezos, artist Mario Klingemann and curator Anika Meier discussed the topic: “Inert Images vs. Attention Maxxing in the Age of AI Slop”.

“I got an introduction to my complicated way of thinking” – Mario Klingemann

Klingemann remarked, inviting the audience to step into his world.

While classical artists work with metals, brushes, and physical materials, Klingemann uses information itself as the raw material for his practice. What has always fascinated him is the translation between different media. This approach not only results in visual works but also in music pieces he refers to as his “Griefing Songs.” Behind a wall filled with what he calls “boring” landscape images, his piece “On and On” plays in a continuous loop, evoking a sense of endlessness. And this is precisely where the core of the talk emerges.

In a world overwhelmed by excessive information, Klingemann seeks to revive boredom as a way of resisting the forces that prevent us from engaging deeply with things perceived as dull. Through the repetition of these landscape images, a structure suddenly begins to appear. When viewed as a whole, the human brain instinctively searches for patterns and similarities. In doing so, Klingemann captivates visitors not only through his works but also through the ideas embedded within them. As one attendee put it: “I really appreciate the honesty of the artist and I’m excited to see what else is to come.”

The talk was accompanied by a vibrant, summery breakfast spread. From croissants to fresh strawberries, everything was thoughtfully arranged, complemented by champagne to complete the experience. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming—an open exchange on equal footing. Mario Klingemann engaged attentively with the audience, answering questions with warmth and curiosity, while SLEEK Art Space was once again filled with an inspiring energy.
